Sometime ago, I posted a blog about whips used in self-defense. You can read it here if you’d like. Since then, I’ve built several whips for people who have proven their use in self-defense applications. The pic to the right of the red bullwhip is the latest design from Noreast Whips. It’s specs were requested by the customer. He wanted a short but heavy handled whip. From his initial review, the response was positive. I look forward to hearing more after he & some fellow martial artists have given the whip a thorough workout.
This whip measures 4 ft 6 inches from the butt to the end of the braided portion, about 75 inches overall. The handle is 8 inches, loaded with a bit more lead than on standard bulls I build. The core is shot-loaded, again with more weight than normal; two plaited bellies with a 16 plait overlay in imperial red. Knots are in black & red. I carried the binding further down the length of the bellies, allowing for a bit more stiffness, but with the intent of giving the whip a quicker, more responsive action. It cracks very easily, and once broken in, will handle even better. The extra lead in the butt of the handle makes this a formidable weapon for striking. I’ll be building one of these whips for myself in the near future.
